The kindest cut

It’s a very curious thing

This absolute certainty

For so long we lived estranged

Wary, distrustful

It and I

Then this happened

She happened

With one deft move

She executed an invasive procedure and

Opened me up like a cardiac patient

She tinkered with the tubes

Bypassed my coagulating perspectives

And now I barely recognize the words that fall out of me

But I like their beat

Rhythmic, concentred

As if life had never kicked my ass

Not even once

What a timorous specimen

I must have seemed

Prior to my retrofit

Before this resuscitation

Of my waking life.
