Love like blood

It falls to hate

Love died violently on the bloody sands of Omaha

Two thousand love stories ending

In a hard rain of shrapnel and lead

Love died in the napalm blossoms of the Mekong delta

Hearts consumed before their true fire

Had a chance to ignite

Above the highway of death, the Apaches unleashed hell

More love songs silenced as the cars and buses burned

‘Neath an unforgiving sun

Love dies too often

Too easily

Love dies and gives birth to grief

But as fragile and temporary as it is

As precious and hard won

Still we try to kill it

Every chance we get.
