Grace

 

Wish

 

May you never lose your childlike grace

And may your life always seem shiny

Every sunrise surprising

Each birdsong resonant

I pray you always strive to live your dreams

And find your ‘one’ among the many

Walk with wonder and eye everything

As if you’re figuring out how to draw it

Nurture the child within but be an adult

The difference between childlike

And childish

I wish these things for you

The blood of my blood, because

No one ever showed me how to live well

And so I lived poorly for too long

You, my beautiful son, I pray will know a better road.
