Tender

A memory of tomorrow

Adrift in a place between waking and sleep

Suspended in warm languid liquid contentment

All angst frozen in amber and stone

Ancient fossils unconnected to

This egg-yolk moment

Skin brushes skin

Hairs stand electric

Animal scents fill our room

Our womb

Our world

In the fuzzed sticky warmth

Drops of us dry away

Or dry in

Love is messy

Uncouth

One hundred percent organic

It tastes of honey mixed with vinegar

And smells like the surface of the soul

I focus on the little zephyrs of her breaths

And let their rhythm slip ’n’ slide my consciousness

Down towards oblivion’s waiting arms

Outside a lonely car drones by on the empty highway

Swish of tires on melting snow

Nothing else breaks the reverie of this perfect moment.
