Don’t know nothin’ except change will come.

Dirty snow

A change has come

Though winter clings in filthy patches

By roadside and in ditches

Though the wind blasts knives

numbing face and hands

The sun has returned

Clawing back afternoon solace

from the morning’s ill-uses

The sullen find cheer

In routines grown lighter

And the April bulbs prepare

To make their entrance

He stands on the porch

Mug in hand

Watching

Feeling the change

A woodpecker adds a staccato flourish

To a perfect beginning.

Words and image are my own.

  1. You came back to New Jersey to a really cold start to Spring! About -8 deg C this morning here in Bergen County, and still a lot of snow on the ground. Not a flower to be seen yet. Hope it gets warm soon. M 🙂
