Internal voices 1
When the pen refuses to drag the hand
And the words decline to spill
There’s still the knife
The razor’s invisible edge
Endless ways to break the surface
And so much left to shed
Expurgatory surgery
Bleeding is easy
Scarily so
Remember
Bleed
But don’t bleed out
Write
But keep an exit at your back
Commit
But keep a little in the tank
It’s a long walk to the end of e v e r y t h i n g
And though there are more days now
Behind you than ahead
You can still find eternity
In one long Sunday afternoon
Spent staring at an empty page.
Words and image are my own.

Liked it a hell of a lot better yesterday! Just kidding. Good one. You spiked the landing as they say in gymnastics. Never heard of Shriekback. I see they go back a long way. Sometimes I am hopelessly out of touch.

I had the good fortune to see them twice in their heyday (the 80s). They were a very good live act.

Absolutely. Please don’t take what I write too literally. Metaphor is the meat of poetry (even bad poetry).
